Is It A Bird, Is it A Plane.. No Its A SHAME !!!

I wanted to write about this for a very very long time and now the occasion has just just made things mandatory for me to sit up and hit the key board. i know this is a very controversial argument especially on a second assignment. But the land cherished for its culture is now looking itself into the deep hole, somebody needs to send the SoS !!!

I was in Goa for a week in January and the pseudo culture they followed there was not very charming. It had its rich invasion of the Portuguese with a mild blend of the Goan patois. I was very happy to get back to Chennai with the Madrasi Auto wallas haggling to the customers at the Airport. Typical Madrasi weather. I was admiring anything and everything in my aspect ratio, Madrasi Trees, Madrasi Roads, Madrasi Traffic and the feeling "Namba Madras" was flying well and truly high. Until my eyes fell on this "Not so Madrasi" Advertisement Hoarding on the median. My Initial Guesses on the product were stuffs used for "Making Love."[Pardon Me, I couldn't get it more euphemistic than this] Voila ! It was an Ad for an FM channel ! ! !

I know the city has a very stiff competition in The Entertainment Business with as many as 9 FM channels reverberating the streets of Chennai. But an AD of such a kind to make people listen to that particular station was Atrocious. "Right from middle aged woman to a muscular looking bald guy posing in the most disgusting fashion", It was a hypocrite's masquerade of virtue. All the more shocking, This FM channel is housed by a very famous Magazine domicile which runs a very culturally oriented history. They are everywhere in the City, Even the most buzzing Kodambakkam Bridge abode the Ad of this FM Channel and the most Nauseating one i have ever witnessed.

Does an FM Channel demand such an advertisement to run its business. If this is any idea of capturing the youth it has failed miserably. Where are the Tamil-Centered Politicians, The Women Organizations, The Cultural Socities. If a Tamil cinema carrying such a scene is condemned very harshly by critics, Why No Reactions for such a Ghastly and provoking Ad !!! It has not only made a few people sit and notice this as an exasperating stuff but has also created a negative image on the possessor of the FM Channel. Its High Time some one does something to censure such controversial or more to say Comical acts. In The Wake of the New Indian Economy boom, Its Only The Suave Culture that would lead to eternal prosperity and not such humiliating pictures leading to Fatal Ignominy.

gr8 work..i cannot completely agree with wat u've told, there is a definite change in the transformation but we cant help it..in this competitive world they need to show their individuality but i don support them or agree with wats happening..
wat do u think is the solution to this problem...

keep posted

@ Splutters !!!

On Kumudam's History, It ws founded by P.V. Parthasarathy a staunch Vadagalai Iyengar who wanted to have this as a spiritual magazine basically covering the then home-makers of Tamil Nadu. But after his demise things took an ugly turn ! even an ad covering "Snehidi" their women-oriented weekly was portrayed very scruffily.

@ Aravind
If u keep lamenting on what can be done, possibly nothing can be done. I aired my opinion and the question is simple does an FM channel require such an AD ! I have no regrets in showing their individuality but have it in a positive trend ! y don u try some thing in a humorous-scale. In that case With Radio Mirchi's Tag-Line they can have the most awesome pictures :-P

I am just annoyed that these people just could not stick on to their "Ad-Ethic"

dude i don say ur feeling is wrong..
i completely agree wid u.,but the problem with our society is people vent their anger by writing in blogs as u did or in letters to editor,no one wil do things in action and if u start on doing something probably few ppl would follow u, i'm one amongst them., but u cant change things wit few ppl., its simple to put it in words but really tough to put in action...

i personally havent seen that ad da, but regarding this culture, i hate it when ppl use sex for unrelated things. I think those ads will be treated acc. to their merit and slowly will go to hybernation

Avery good morningAny thing on earth a truly democratic country, you are liberal to have the fm rating up by using the admedia ultimately at the end of the day we have to tune to the right fm channel based on this ad or that ad or the trend setters of radio jockeys
likes of suchis koffee and what not.
isnn,t it it truly ishstyle madrasi
of yesteryears know down in u.p.delhi
and maharashtra they label madrasi
in a greater geographical area,i.e
tamilnadu(Madrasstate-madras,when under the britisj raj it was under now Andhrapradesh,if you take census in chennai you will find more of telugus then tamilian i mean within the city limits of chennai the real identity of true tamilians lie somewhere else down south salem>erode>coimbatore>madurai>tirunelveli>TUTICORIN>nagercoil where even now the refinement of language also increases down south.
But for the north indians they label madrasis as south indians irrespective of kannadigis,to teluguwala,to malayalee to mirchimasala hot mirchi(imean machi)ala madrasis(now by gazettenotification chennai)ala our true cultural heritage is maintained by none other than our Madras University the future student community the beholders of our cultural identity, which way you want to take forward shakira or m.s.subbalakshmi or readymix of asha bhosle or the whole lot of mtv,s and vtn or semi hinglishtan culture.........? which way you would like to take forward or backward ,beta its PEPSI ONGAL CHOICE WHICH ONE DO YOU WANT?
